Man, I hope you're being sarcastic, because most of the worst players I have ever dealt with were wearing expensive armor...
Ditto. I haven't experienced any bad players wearing 15k armour, but from what i've read in the jerks thread, i get the impression that people who have 15k armour think they can boss other players around, or beat them in PvP just because they had the money to waste on vanity.

Quite right - in the Jerks thread it's ALWAYS "This one time, in this mission, we met a warrior who had FoW armor and he swore and spammed then left the mission and called us ALL noobs and told us he could pwn us all and that we were crap because we didn't have 15k armor..." - it's always the same...
Edit: that's not to say that thread isn't pure, unrivaled geniusness...

I buy armor based on look. Thankfully the Factions armorer can make you any armor with any specs, so I could finally get a decent-looking Gladiators outfit for my warrior...
I've suggested this before but... ANet should put in an Uber Hat in the game, which looks like this:
I buy 1.5k Kurzick armor for my Mesmer because i like it better than the 15k Kurzick armor. So....nothing else matters.... So, if you buy the 15k armor, purely because it is 15k....why?
I also buy based on looks. Since the 1.5 and 15 have the same stats, it's whatever looks better, and that's often the 1.5. I'm the one that'll be looking at the character all the time--not everyone else. But some people see getting the 15k as "having arrived". I haven't really familiarized myself with what all the armors look like, especially for profs I never play, so I can never tell if anyone is wearing 1.5, 15k, or starter armor, and couldn't are less, either.

Amen. I can now get enchanters for my mezzies without them looking like they've just left a Victoria's Secret party.
I buy armor for, 1.) functionality, 2.) looks. Often times, I don't like 15k so I don't buy it. Or I'll like some 15k pieces, but prefer 1.5 for others. But, most of my chars have plain old 1.5. Unless I really love it, I'm not spending a fortune on armor that has the same functionality of something a lot cheaper.
Most times I prefer the looks of 15k armor, but my mes is currently on 1.5K Canthan cos I like it. However, as soon as ive ascended, and got a few more shards, Im of to get FOW for my Mes, I think it rocks!
I have to admit that my favorite male ranger armor in the game is drok's druids. I'm workin on my 3rd ranger now and as soon as I get him there, that's what he'll wear. I still have yet to see a set of 15k armor that looks any better. I did admittedly also buy a set of 15k drakescale for one ranger, but I only wear it on occasion.
As for other professions in general, I have to admit that there are several sets of armor (especially in Factions) that look better in the 1.5k versions than their 15k counterparts.
Sometimes it does just look best to have just a piece or two of 15k imo. My mesmer who is male runs with droks enchanters with the 15k enchanter jacket dyed black. The full 15k set looks like he's wearing a full set of tights with a formal jacket, but the droks armor actually gives him some boots (the gloves are really the exact same thing).

I've got 1.5k Kurzick Female chestpiece on my monk with the 1.5k Luxon pants, purely because I don't like the big 'skirts' of both 15k Kurzick & Luxon, and I think the 15k Kurzick chestpiece looks too posh and does not really reflect the kind of character my monk is
i bought myself luxon 15k for my ele cause .. well.. its hot. my boyfriend got himself kurzixk 1.5k for his shewarrior cause.. well.. its hot. its similar to the kurzik 15k but it has a thong and thats hot. =D ok i think i've said enough. ill go now, rofl
Everytime I see someone with ranger fow, i think "they buy armor because it's expensive," because ranger fow is the ugliest fow armor in the game, next to male monk's clown suits.
I thought this thread was going to be so much more than 1.5K versus 15K versus FoW...
To me, functionality always trumps appearance.
That being said, I tend to mix and match pieces of the 1.5K and 15K armor, because:
1. I generally find that utilizing a full set of the same type of armor doesn't gain the best utility out of it. For example, I almost always pick a chest and pants piece that provides the best armor possible, and select an arm and legs piece that provides either energy, health or other bonus (e.g. Bloodstained Boots, Stonefist Gauntlets).
2. Because I'm already mixing and matching pieces, I generally go for what looks best together given those combinations, versus going for the most expensive armor. This also gives a somewhat "unique" look to my characters, compared to other characters.
3. To me, expensive does not equal better looking. For example, I prefer the Male 1.5K Gladiator's top over the 15K Gladiator's top, primarly because of the "bra strap" on the 15K that's visible when you're hiding your guild cape (I swear that the symbol on the front of the armor are the Victoria's Secret logo). You have no idea how many times people have seen my 1.5K Gladiator's top, however, and automatically started to call me a "noob"...until they see me tanking five grasps of insanity at once.
I used to buy 15k armor for all my chars, but I have since stopped. I didn't quite like the look of some of the 15k armors in Factions. I was mainly looking for a better-looking set than the scar pattern sets, which I don't particularly like. Personally, I find that oftentimes the 1.5k one looks better than the 15k one.
Right now, 2 of my chars are quite comfy in their desert collector armor
15K armor was made for people to show off, but in some cases the 1.5k armors look nicer (ele is better 1.5k kurz) so next time someone asks u if its 15k just say no, its better than 15k
I've just been having a look on GuildWiki at the other Elementalist Armor around. Again...Aeromancer 1.5k armor looks nicer than Aeromancer 15k armor...they went and ruined it by giving her tights!
...then join party and spam greens at them. 4 sets of weapon and foci tend to humble the heartiest "egomaniac", PvE or PvP.
ROFLMFAO. Seriously man, I had to step away from this post and laugh for about 5 minutes before I could post. I love when I see people calling their green items at the beginning of a mission. It usually goes to show they spent alot of time/money getting greens so people would think they are good/skilled. If you were good, you wouldn't need to spam your greens, your play would show it. Collectors items are better than greens anyway. Greens are just about looks.

well i dont agree with any of you maybe some of u but i got no time to read all...
100 ppl 100 oppinions... so its just a matter of preferance what armor some1 takes...
i know ppl with fow that know how to play and play well... rank <10 guild...
and in the same guild we have ppl with fow, not ebayed, earned thru creative deals and thinking... who really dont have a clue how to play anything... besides sell and buy stuff...
so i think ppl that judge ppl by their armor and weapons are also superficial and clueless about this game as the ppl who ebay money... if u cant make 1 million plat in lets say 6 months.... that is a very long time for that [and i mean ppl who pve not only pvp] u are better of playing some simpler game more suited to your iq level...
personaly for pve i take armor for it looks not stats as they arent important in pve... and for weapons i take what i like... almost always green items... and sell golds that are valued atm to stupid ebayers for insane amount of cash, keeping 1 off each for myself just collector purpose... only some1 who ebayed money can pay 700k for perfect fell... ppl who earn it know better... so make money of ebayers and chinese farmers and keep what u like for urself... main philosophy of GW... i got 3-3.5 mil just in war weapons at current district 1 prices in the storage char and it all costed me <300k... go figure it out... i got a brain...
Its not that req 8 15>50 fell is going to kill faster than req 13 15>50 gladius... so GW is a game of skins... just textures... in other games u get stats for your money in GW u get drawn texture... that does nothing besides looks stupid on low poly 3d model... there isnt even a single animated weapon in the game... except stormbow and thats lame too... so ppl who care about these things either are 8 years old or have no real life... no real "i-see-you-every-day-in-person" friends and probably 300 pounds in the ass...
